General Meeting Notes 8/24 and 8/30 - English

Meeting Notes: First General Meeting at Open House 8/24 (preK-2) 8/30 (3-6) 

Attendees: The attendees were a combination of members and non-members.
Board Members in attendance: Monica Orozco, Brian Sparks, Roxanne Bazaldua Laurie Campos, Monica Marquez, Jeannette Dean, Rebecca McMains, Habiba Noor.

 The notes below are a summary of both meetings - which had the same agenda. The meeting was faciliated by Monica Orozco on 8/24 and Brian Sparks on 8/3.


  •  Meeting Called to order at 6:00pm Welcome: PTA currently has 72 member (the number has changed since the meeting) 
  • What is the PTA: The PTA is a national and state based organization that advocates for children, teachers, and parents. The national mission statement is: to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. 


  • The PTA board is:  
    • President: Monica Orozco
    • President’s Aide: Chris Balthrop: 
      • The President’s aide represents the president by welcoming parents, answering questions, and meeting requests directed to the president. Able to run a meeting if President is unavailable.
    • VP of Family Engagement: Rebecca McMains 
      • The VP of Family Engagement welcomes and values families, enables volunteering, communication, help plan and host PTA events that are meaningful for whole family learning 
    •  VP of Fundraising: Monica Marquez 
      • The VP of internal fundraising primary responsibilities include hosting fundraisers amongst the Lamar families. 
    • VP of External Fundraising: Laurie Campos 
      • The VP of external fundraising’s Primary responsibilities include fundraising and resource development; external communications; advocacy; cultivating and maintaining relationships with surrounding agencies and donors. Participating in the representation of the organization in various arenas
    •  Secretary: Habiba Noor: 
      •  Secretary-maintain all official records of the association, record in the minutes all business transacted at each meeting. Present minutes from the previous meeting, association, or board. 
    • Treasurer: OPEN POSITION  
    • The Principal is a permanent member of the PTA board. 
  • The Calendar and Budget will be presented in detail at the next meeting but here are important dates to consider: OCTOBER 9TH- Learning Expo, NOVEMBER 13TH- Learning Expo, MARCH 5TH- Learning Expo, MAY7TH-Learning Expo, JUNE 11TH- Learning Expo
  •  T-Shirt Update: We have raised a profit of 1,500 from T-shirt sales. Sweatshirt sales are upcoming. 
  •  Family members can engage informally with PTA at principals coffee. 
  •  Next PTA will be announced on next newsletter.

PTA Leadership for Next Year (English)

THE LAMAR PTA NEEDS YOU! We need to choose our leadership for the next school year. Lamar PTA Leadership 2019-2020. WHAT ARE THE STEPS? According to our bylaws: 1.        We as a group elect, by plurality vote, a committee to nominate PTA board officers: president, treasurer, secretary. The election shall be by ballot on Monday 15th April 8-8:30 a.m. 2.        3 people are voted onto the committee. The “alternate” is the runner up nominee.    3.        The committee presents a report 7 days before the election, by Friday 26th April. 4.        We hold an election for president, treasurer and secretary - PTA members not nominated by the committee can nominate themselves, or be nominated, from the floor on election day. PTA announcements and Science Night Information

Greetings All - As a reminder tonight we have Science Night. Before the science activities begin the PTA would like to take 10 minutes of your time to update you on budgetary and financial issues. Here is an overview of the evening: 5:30 - 5:50 Pizza will be served.  5:50 - 6:00 PTA  6:00 - 7:00 Science Family Fun The PTA will sell leftover t-shirts and sweatshirts.  Overview of PTA Announcement:  First we will introduce our fantastic new treasurer, Ben Martinez. Ben will review the treasurers report. We have one order of business. At the last meeting we reviewed and passed the 2018-2019 PTA budget. We received many suggestions on how to modify the format. We have streamlined the budget format and made a few amendments:  We will not have concessions at Fiesta. Instead we will offer free pallets.
