PTA Announcements from Literacy Night


Lamar PTA 2018-2019 Updates 

It has been a year of transitions and growth. We can now say that we have a stable and energize PTA board, a fabulous budget and 155 members! We are planning events that 1) maximize teachers’ instruction time with our tigers and 2) gives our Lamar families the greatest chance to be involved. 

So far this year, PTA has funded, hosted and worked hard on:
  • Teacher appreciation dinners at Thanksgiving & Christmas 
  • Community wide events like Culture Fest, Fall Festival, movie night and pizza dinners. 
  • Welcome events like the back-to-school coffee and the “meet and greet” for new families.
  • Fundraisers such as t-shirt sales, winter photos, Fall Festival. 
  • Supporting learning with field trip funds and events like Green Eggs and Ham. 
  • Processing PTA membership cards
  • Collecting 4250 boxtops = $425!!!!



Upcoming Business Meetings:

Fri 29 Mar, 8-9am  Discussion on 2019-2020 events/budget, nominating committee and election process POSTPONED UNTIL MON 15 APR, 8-8:30a.m. 
Fri 3 May, 8-9am  Elections 
Tue 7 May, 6pm New board presented at Learning Expo
Fri 14 Jun, 8-9am  Final budget review, approve and vote  

Upcoming Events:
Dinner & “Alice in Wonderland” Movie Night, Fri 22 Mar 6-8pm. Suggested $5 per person. 
Mad Tea Party Fun Run (apex replacement) Sat 23 Mar 9:30-11:30am. $5 per family. 
Earth Day, Sat 6 April. FREE.
STAAR Test Treats, 9-11 April. Tacos and snacks for test-takers and teachers. 
Fiesta t—shirt sales. More information coming. Likely to be $10.
Fiesta Celebration  Thur 25 April, afternoon. FREE PALETAS. Fiesta photos $5.
Teacher appreciation week  6-10 May.
Muffins for Moms, Fri 10 May, 8-9am. FREE
Pinecar Derby, Sat 11 May. Hopefully car kits will be FREE, possibly $5.  
Donuts for Dads, Fri 7 June, 8-9am. FREE

PTA Leadership for Next Year (English)

THE LAMAR PTA NEEDS YOU! We need to choose our leadership for the next school year. Lamar PTA Leadership 2019-2020. WHAT ARE THE STEPS? According to our bylaws: 1.        We as a group elect, by plurality vote, a committee to nominate PTA board officers: president, treasurer, secretary. The election shall be by ballot on Monday 15th April 8-8:30 a.m. 2.        3 people are voted onto the committee. The “alternate” is the runner up nominee.    3.        The committee presents a report 7 days before the election, by Friday 26th April. 4.        We hold an election for president, treasurer and secretary - PTA members not nominated by the committee can nominate themselves, or be nominated, from the floor on election day. PTA announcements and Science Night Information

Greetings All - As a reminder tonight we have Science Night. Before the science activities begin the PTA would like to take 10 minutes of your time to update you on budgetary and financial issues. Here is an overview of the evening: 5:30 - 5:50 Pizza will be served.  5:50 - 6:00 PTA  6:00 - 7:00 Science Family Fun The PTA will sell leftover t-shirts and sweatshirts.  Overview of PTA Announcement:  First we will introduce our fantastic new treasurer, Ben Martinez. Ben will review the treasurers report. We have one order of business. At the last meeting we reviewed and passed the 2018-2019 PTA budget. We received many suggestions on how to modify the format. We have streamlined the budget format and made a few amendments:  We will not have concessions at Fiesta. Instead we will offer free pallets.
